News from Creative Writing Simone Zelitch

On April 16th the Certificate Program in Creative Writing held a
gathering of writers in C2-05. The gathering gave students the
opportunity to hear about course offerings from Creative Writing
faculty and to hear a panel discussion by four previous creative
writing students (Patricia L. Black, Brian Patrick Heston, Martin Wiley
and Blythe Davenport) . An open-mic followed the panel where students and faculty were able to share their work.

Five Creative Writing faculty were at the recent Association of
Writers and Writing Programs convention, including Program Director Simone Zelitch (presenting Leslye Friedberg’s work on the CAP LITERARY Magazine in a panel on using creative writing in the composition classroom), Kelly McQuain (presenting his work on the new Portfolio Development course in a panel on multi-genre Creative Writing classes)and Dianna Russell (presenting her work on moving beyond domestic drama in Scriptwriting in a roundtable discussion called The Pedagogy Papers). Elaine Terranova and Barry George also attended. Perhaps even more noteworthy was that two of the students who’d come to NYC last year on the Foundation Minigrant paid their own way to attend in Chicago.

The Certificate Program in Creative Writing now has over sixty students enrolled and as of the fall, for the first time, students were able to register for the certificate concurrently with a degree, an option that transfer students find especially attractive.
