Professor Gina Mackenzie’s “Theatre of the Real”

Professor Gina M. Mackenzie’s book, The Theatre of the Real: Yeats, Beckett and Sondheim, has recently been accepted for publication by Ohio State University Press. It will be published in the Fall of 2008. 

From the author: 

The Theatre of the Real:  Yeats, Beckett, and Sondheim, develops a new 
theory of Modern theatre by modifying Jacques Lacan’s concept of the 
Real.  Essentially, the book asserts that, under certain circumstances, 
Modern theatre can help its practitioners and audience members alike 
participate in an experience that allows them radically to break from 
society’s norms and create a new self-definition allowing ultimate 
autonomy and freedom.
